Death Bells Toll Once again @ Jelapang Toll

::i do not have the exact statistics regarding the total death toll due to accidents at the Jelapang toll plaza, but it must be high for the alarm bells have been busily ringing. This year alone there have been 5 deaths. There has been much talk about shifting the toll plaza but while Samy and his chappies from the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) and Plus Expressways Sdn Bhd, are having their talk talk sessions and deciding on which plan to put into action, the death bells have kept on tolling away. The latest accident occurred early this morning and a lorry attendant was killed when the southbound vehicle he was in hit the back of a trailer-lorry at km 265.8 of North-South Highway, near the deadly Jelapang toll plaza. This is the 4th serious accident at the said toll plaza this year.
The 3rd accident this year occurred on the night of 7th Sept, fortunately there was no serious injuries. Again it involved a southbound trailer-lorry was going down a slope as it was approaching the death toll plaza when it suddenly went out of control.
At the beginning of this year, on 5th Jan, three people were killed after another trailer-lorry crashed into another trailer-lorry. Superstitous people might be blaming the latest two accidents on the 'Ghost Month' but what can one say about the earlier two?
Samy and his chappies should be putting their plans into action instead of just talk talk. It seems there are grand plans to have the death toll plaza shifted and at the same time construct several elevated interchanges, which would allow motorists to enjoy the free ride within Ipoh town and the surrounding areas. This RM 250 million grand plan would probably take at the least a couple of years to complete, in the meantime the death bells are tolling. It is difficult to understand why Samy and his chappies are not willing to consider the cheaper, said to be RM4 million, plan where the Jelapang toll plaza is shifted northwards. The proposal by the north Perak haulers was to site the toll plaza at or near the Perak River lay-off.
So in the meanwhile while they are having their talk talk, southbound travellers on the Plus North-South highway should take precautions when approaching the death toll plaza, ensure that there are no heavy vehicles behind you when coming down that deadly slope.
