Are We 3rd Rudest? Think Again.

First it was the Reader's Digest mini-survey which placed us as the 3rd rudest in the world. Then after the indignation and protest by none other then our beloved DPM (the one-who-could-have-been PM now); Reader's Digest said that it was not all Malaysians but KLites who were the rude ones. Explaining further, it said that only 60 KLites were surveyed using only 3 test situations, their ‘doorman’, ‘paper scatter’ and ‘smiley TQ service’ tests.

But are we really rude? Let us examine what is taking place in BolehLand.

If we were to look around anywhere, be it in the cities, town or countryside or even PutraJaya (especially after the Friday pasar malam) what do we see? Clean roads? No! Clean 5-foot ways? No! Clear flowing drains? No! What we really see are litters here, litters there, litters everywhere! It won't be wrong to say that BolehLanders' favourite past-time is littering. So what would a BolehLander do when he/she sees another scattering papers all over? Help to pick them up and spoilt a fellow BolehLander's fun?

Hold the door open for a fellow BolehLander who is behind you and you will get that stare which seems to say "Don't you think i can get that door opened, meself". True BolehLanders disliked being considered "softies" and feel that they are ontop of such situations. Remember the last time you offered that pregnant BolehLander your seat on the crowded train and got stares all around when she flatly refused your offer without even saying TQ.

As for saying TQ after a concluding a sales. BolehLanders can afford to pay for their purchases and after so much time spent haggling and bargaining over the price and prize, they certainly don't expect the vendor to say "TQ and please come again". The vendor saying so would just about take away the fun of the bargaining battle.

After the revelation by the RD's survey, BolehLanders came out to defend themselves, claiming that they are not as made out to be but knowing fully well that they are not far off from the survey's conclusion. Online surveys were carried out by some papers to refute what RD had claimed. Anyone remembered the "falling RM10" test carried out by one of BolehLand's papers prior to the release of the RD's survey results? The MMail carried out its own survey recently, check out its results here. It came to this conclusion :: "Thank you, we're doing fine". Really?

Malaysians Indisciplined???

At the International Conference of Human Security, the Tun claimed that "We're a disciplined lot" and therefore don't need an oppressive gomen. Recently the Tun had levelled harsh criticisms upon the gomen of Pak Lah and requested for answers to some of his questions. Has he caused dissent amongst his fellow Malaysian citizens by criticising the soem of the policies and decisions of his successors? Has he breached party discipline as a UMNO member by doing so?

The DPM and also Deputy UMNO President appears to think so and has warned that "Barisan Nasional members are free to speak out against the country’s leadership, but they must remember they are also subject to party discipline". On the subject of BN dissenters, The NST reported the following::

1. One of them was Umno Youth executive councillor Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, Dr Mahathir’s son. Reportedly upset that ministers and others had criticised the former premier, he argued that what his father raised "was rational, so answer rationally".

2. Another dissenting view came from Cheras Umno division head Senator Datuk Syed Ali Alhabshee, who said the present leadership’s promise to be more open and transparent meant there should not be any move by anyone to deny Dr Mahathir his right to speak up.

Of course it conveniently made no mention of the chief dissenter.

Mention has been made by a PAS leader that come Monday and the Tun might find himself out of UMNO. But this won't be his first time he is kicked out.

On the subject of discipline, it is obvious that we are really a disciplined lot as proclaimed by the Tun. One only has to read this report :: Perak wants indiscipline cut to 0.5%. In this report we are told by the Perak State Education director ::

"Only 3.9 per cent of the student population were involved in indiscipline in 2004, while the figure went up slightly to 4.1 per cent last year."

The director added that these figures were insignificant and were mainly contributed by cases of truancy.

Tun Mahathir to Join Anwar?

According to an item in M'kini, the Tun maybe joining Anwar soon ie being out of UMNO. The news item says that PAS rising star, Husam Musa claims to have got wind that Mahathir's days in Umno could be numbered.

Husam says that the Tun could be out of UMNO as early as the next Monday when the UMNO supreme council meets. UMNO information chief has confirmed that the party supreme council meeting will be holding a meeting on Monday but does not know what is on the menu.

If the Tun goes, this won't be the first time he is kicked out of UMNO. The Tun was expelled by the party after he severely criticised the Tengku after the 1969 racial riots. He was later brought back into UMNO by Tun Razak.

Will that "gentleman" Pak Lah kick out the man who got him the premiership just because he criticised him so harshly recently? Or is PAS just fishing in troubled waters and hoping to strike pre-emptively at its political foes? Wait for Monday. Anway today will also be an interesting day as Sukma goes on trial again.

Pak Lah :: Street Demos Will Not Do any Good

According to a BERNAMA report, Pak Lah is quoted as saying ::

"Staging street protests against the government will not do any good for the people but will instead disrupt business and hurt the country's economy."

He apparently said this when asked to comment on PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang's statement yesterday that he would not stop party members from demonstrating, including throwing stones at the police.

Pak Lah also said ::

"This is bad advice."
"This should not have come from a party leader who should be advocating peace and security in the country. Why throw stones at the police?"

Obviously, Pak Lah has not seen or is he refusing to see the pictures and video of Bloody Sunday or does he agree with his IGP that the polis had only used minimal force in self-defense against those fleeing demonstrators?

Is our PM still confining himself to that proverbial tempurong and insisting on "elegant elective blindness" to what really happened on that Bloody Sunday?

Now as to what the PAS president really said, BERNAMA has his to report ::

Hadi told a news conference after the PAS Muktamar in Alor Setar, Kedah, yesterday that street protests were the best way for the party to show its dissatisfaction with the government.

He had said that if the police used batons, the demonstrators could retaliate by throwing stones found by the roadside.

So judge for yourself what the real senario is all about. i wonder what Pak Lah has to say regarding those armoured baton-wielding members of the PDRM.

The Tun ::"Minor Bruises Lah"

The former PM (he is now called the ex-prime minister by the mainstream) is back to slam Pak Lah, his annointed replacement. He claims that he has been hurt by the criticism of him by the present gomen and has the following to say ::

1. Pak Lah was not his first choice as replacement PM
2. Najib was his first choice (why then Pak Lah?)
3. He was not the spendthrift as made out by the present gomen
4. Petronas is still very rich and loaded
5. He has had "minor bruises" from Pak Lah
6. He is greatly irked by the turn-around-decision regarding his "beautiful scenic half-bridge" and the "AP saga"
7. He is an UMNO loyalist still and thinks the PAS idea of him as an Opposition Leader is one he does not want to be associated with
8. He is not out to "dethrone" his successor, only UMNO cna do so
9. He will continue to criticise and chasten the present gomen if he sees something wrong

So it is obvious we have not heard the last from the Tun. Now what will Pak Lah do? It is obvious he has not been able to settle the Tun after their little meeting in Japan not too long ago.

What will those "little Napoleons", "minorbruisers: and "backstabbers" in Pak Lah huge cabinet do now that their boss is once again under attack by their ex-boss? My prediction? The next few days will see them clamouring to have their words of support published all over the mainstream media.
