Credibility::Zam Zam Way

Want more credibility for your website and blogspot? Our INfo MINIster says it's easy just have the gomen control the Internet.
Once the gomen is allowed to control the Internet, it would be able to certify websites which carry only reliable info. With such certification the website's credibility would be boosted. The Info MINIster is said to have said ::
"In one aspect, the control on media content will boost credibility of a website as the people will know the news published was accurate and no longer based on rumours."

Anyone interested in having such certification?

Leadership By Example

Why, oh, why are we wasting all those ringgit on traffic safety campaigns. Maybe we could use this as a poster for our young bikers.

The Tun, The Loafer or The Busy Hornet?

Recently, after a meeting in Telaga Harbour Park, Langkawi, the Tun told reporters that after the failures of his many mega projects, he was going into the "jual roti Benggali" business. Many thought he was jesting. It is now official, the Tun is venturing into the bread-making business. Come this Saturday, a new bakery-cum-restaurant, The Loaf, that aims to produce high-quality bakery products and pastries served a la fine dining will be launched in Langkawi. Where will this new establishment be, Telaga Habour Park, Langkawi of course, the place where the Tun told reporters that he was going into the "jual roti Benggali" business. The man running a bakery is the baker, does this make the man who runs The Loaf, a Loafer?

The Tun might have claimed that he is dabbling in a sunset trade, "jual roti Benggali" but it is obvious that what he is really more interested in other stuff. Some thinks he is out to seek a revival and be born-again. Some says he is out to topple someone and be born-again in the position he recently retired from. Could he be at the helm of this effort to get someone of great importance to step down before Sept 2006?

Far from loafing, the Tun has plenty lined up for himself. Just the other day he was at a book launch and given credit to Chinese Malaysians for their contributions to the nation. Tomorrow will see him in Kota Bharu to meet the people and explain his grouses with the current PM, already the banners are out. The Tun has been called the latest Kelantan Idol and today in Kota Bharu, his posters are plastered all over town. And next we can expect him to organise meet the UMNO boys and girls sessions as he claims that he is still allowed to meet up with them. We will just have to wait and see how many of them and more importantly who will turn up at these sessions with the busy hornet.

Pak Lah's Back with his Voice

There is this BERNAMA item mentioning the return of Pak Lah from his surgery and holiday in Perth. He is said to have been given a rousing welcome by several Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Chief Ministers, Big Ministers and an estimated 3,000 supporters from Barisan Nasional component parties.

Recently when faced by allegations and acccusations of poor, gutless and half-past-six perormance by the Tun, Pak Lah was said to have responded with "elegant silence". Now it is clear that this was due to his sinus problem.

According to the same BERNAMA item, on his health, Pak Lah said he was in good shape and that he had his voice back, after a minor sinus surgery during his leave in Australia. So now, we can all live happily ever after with this PM who is more famous, thus far, for his mucho talk-talk and little walk-walk.

He certainly has mucho talk-talk to do as the recent statement together with the declassification of OSA documents to explain the aborted crooked bridge project have resulted in no answers to the rakyat questions in these areas ::

1. Firstly, are there clear benefits for redoing the causeway? If yes, what are they?

2. This bridge idea was first mooted years ago. And obviously there are agreements and legalities to be considered, why was the AG asleep till as recent as March/April 2006?

3. Why the sudden about-turn, after going full steam ahead with the construction of the bridge in Jan 2006 and then in April 2006, abrupt scrapping of the project?

4. Why the failure again to do the homework regarding the cost of aborting the construction of the bridge? The taxpayers suddenly are given a hefty bill for an unconstructed bridge? A bill bigger than if the construction of the bridge was to proceed!

The Information Minister says that his Ministry will publish a pocket-sized booklet to explain the government's decision to abort the plan to build a bridge but if the above questions are not going to be answered, please do not waste more taxpayers' monies.

A Bullet for A Crooked Bridge

The furore over the decision to build the crooked/half/scenic bridge has yet to die down. Questions are still being asked regarding the reasons for first thinking of building it, its advantages and disadvantages, the benefits, real and imagined that it could bring along. With the now apparently final decision to kill it, questions are still be asked. The Tun is still keen for the PM to tell us why its construction has been stopped. We are now also told that its cancellation would results in the taxpayers being made "suckers" as scrapping it would result in taxpayers paying more than if it had been built!

Like the Tun, many of us are waiting for a fuller explanation as to why the construction of the bridge was on one day and within a couple of days the decision was reversed. Now all of a sudden we are told that maybe it is time to consider having another Malaysia-Singapore link, the bullet train link. The RM 8 billion bullet link has been proposed by YTL Corp. A news item reported that Francis Yeoh, YTL's managing director, said the Malaysian and Singapore governments have been informed of the plan. A NST report had the following to say regarding the advantages of such a high speed rail link ::
"Every single fund manager loves this project and a lot of consumers want it. The industries want it. It’s a no-brainer. It’s the perfect alternative to air and land transport between the two hubs and will integrate them," he said.
"This is not a dream and a project that can’t be done. It can be done if there is a will to do it. And I pray that there will be this will to do it," he said.
"It will help move the economy ahead. The country now needs the boost of fresh private sector investment and we can do that with projects like this."

If eventually approved, the bullet train project will become the largest to be launched on a private finance initiative (PFI) basis, as encouraged under the Ninth Malaysia Plan.
Already NST readers are overwhelmingly for the project as shown by their comments. What most are wondering or concerned about is the price of the ticket! Most high speed train projects were studied for a long time before their implementation, some were cancelled after much studies. Obviously the bullet train would require a third Malaysia-Singapore bridge, will it also need a new CIQ? Do we have the commuter density to support it? How will it affect already ailing MAS and KTM? Will it once again involve bartering our airspace and precious sand? Will it also finally allow the crooked/half/scenic bridge to RIP?
