Now this could prove interesting. According to our Deputy Internal Security Minister, the government will demand compensation for damage to public property from leaders of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) and those involved in its illegal demonstrations.
According to BERNAMA, the Deputy Minister had said ::
"The amount of losses will be conveyed to the Hindraf leaders and others involved" and "They also have to pay for the cost of equipment that the police had to use to quell Sunday's illegal demonstrations. The government will not allow them to escape paying."
We should mark his words and keep a watch as to how fast the damages can be quantified. He better be quick on the mark as according to this report in Malaysiakini more rallies are in the pipeline for next month, December could just be the month of discontent to end this year of discontent. The Deputy Minister had better ensure that the water cannon rucks are well maintained and in good condition. And what about the stocks of tear gas canisters?
Hindraf must also be busily accounting for all the damages causd by those who have been busily demolishing temples and those affected by water cannons and tear gas canisters. And what about those travellersand road users and business people affected by the numerous road blocks set up by the PDRM, they will be busily accounting for their losses. Accountants would be busily helping their clients out this time of the year.
Of late much has been mentioned of the sleepy activities of one guy. How he has sleepwalked throughout most of the 49 monhs of his helmsmanship. We have also heard mentioned of how one of his waris has been the steering the ship through the choppy waters of the affairs of this nation. To find out who he is, one need not go too far, just check out this Malaysiakini editorial. (Don't be cheep cheep, go get a subscription if you are not a subscriber yet.)
But is this guy mentioned in the Malaysiakini editorial really the chap we have in mind when we ask :: "WHO IS BODOHWE"?
Do we, really, readily, have the answer to that question? The search is on for Bodohwe!
These days the NST is rarely read by me but this morning i happened to meet an ole newsvendor of mine. Of course he, as KJ says, belongs to the newsvendor cartel and he is one of the group Hindraf calls "the marginalised minority". He offered me a glance at his NST. The front page said :: The government will use the Internal Security Act. So when failure to provide permit or court orders fail, the PM is ready to use the good old ISA. Of course the ISA would only be used in order "to be fair so as to ensure harmony".
"What is important is that the government has to be fair to all because if we concentrate only on one group, others will complain.
We have to be fair in giving out opportunities to ensure the whole country develops and everyone can live in a peaceful, safe and harmonious country."
Is the PM so sleepy that he is not aware that for the past 37 years or so his gomen has been concentrating only on one group to the detriment of others and the Hindraf gathering is the result of this concentration! Gan of Malaysiakini is right that we not only have a sleepy guy at the helm bt also one incompetent chappie.
Malaysiakini must seriously consider providing the sleepy one with a free subscription so that he can be updated with what is happening around him, the problems the nation is facing and the appropriate remedies he has to take. He only needs to read some of these articles to feel the pulse of the nation he is helming ::
Come to think of it, the sleepy PM does not really need a free Malaysiakini subs as the letter section is FREE. Mr PM, there are still FREE stuff in this world. Hopefully you are aware!
After being unable to feel proud of what has been happening around us lately with the violent means employed by the polis to handle fellow Malaysians who were gathered peacefully to express their constitution given rights; here is an event and a sport personality for us to feel proud about. The person concerned is none other then Ms Wong Mew Choo who won the recent China Badminton Open Ladies Singles title.
Earlier she had made history together with Lee Chong Wei by both getting into the finals of both the women’s and men’s singles events in the China Open.
She further made history by landing the title in the finals while Chong Wei lost to the Chinese Bao Chunlai. While on the way to the title, Mew Choo beat three Chinese players :: Zhu Lin, Zhang Ning and Xie Xingfang.
Well done Mew Choo, we are proud of you and wish you all the best in your future undertakings in the world of world badminton.
For all those who were not in KL this morning, you gotta see this Al Jazeera video on youtube to get a feel of what happened this morning. Check out for yourself as to who were the trouble causers and who were violent. The IGP, according to Malaysiakini, said his men exercised their duties with "restraint"! Can one imagine what would have happened if they had been let loose! On the other hand, Malaysiakini called the restraint showed by the Hindraf marcher as "Gandhi-inspired mass civil disobedience".
The second half of the video is quite interesting as it shows this BN-MIC MP being interviewed and much of what he said could be described by many as talking-cock and making a f--l of himself over Al Jazeera. Is he aware that the world is watching and listening?
The Star online also has a video of the Hindraf gathering, catch it here.
Article 10 clearly allows Malaysians to assemble peacefully without arms, this right of Malaysians to assemble was tear-gassed and water-cannoned away this morning by none other then the polis. The irony is that the polis are supposed to protect and ensure the safety of those who wish to assemble peacefully and prevent those who obstruct this right to peaceful assembly from doing so. But what happens if those obstructing that right happens to be the polis, themselves. Concerned observers would conclude that this was what happened this morning when the Hindraf supporters gather to hand over a petition to Queen Elizabeth II's representative.
Malaysiakini reported that as earlier as even 4am, tear gas was fired at potential marchers in Batu Caves. And in KL, in Jalan Ampang, tear gas canisters were fired at about 7.40am to disperse a large crowd who had gathered there. This morning saw the polis busy lobbing tear gas canisters and firing chemical-laced water at the gathering crowds of children, ladies and gentlemen of Hindraf. Was there a need to be so heavy-handed? Did the crowds behaved in an unruly manner? Were they the cause of the massive traffic jams in and around KL in recent days? It is easy to blame others and look for possible and probable cause but often blame is nearer home.
MIC Samy insists that Indians CAN work "within the system" to highlight their grouses and receive redress. But has the MIC NOT been doing this for the past many many years of its existence? But why are so many Indians still marginalised and the NEED for the Hindraf assembly this morning? The answer is obvious but it appears that MIC Samy is not aware or choose not to be aware. Does he seriously believe it, when he says, "The gathering is an opposition ploy to smear the government’s image”. And how many among this morning marchers believe MIC Samy, when he says "We have been working within the system to resolve the problems faced by the Indian community” and "There is still a lot more to be done for the Indians and we’ll continue with our struggle".
Another sad day for Malaysia, as Article 10 get tear-gassed away. Sympathies go out to those marchers who were physically, mentally and possibly even spiritually abused.
Article 10(b) of the Constitution states that :: all citizens have the right to assemble peaceably and without arms
Based on this, HINDRAF supporters will assemble peacefully to present a petition to Queen Elizabeth II to appoint Solicitors and Queens Counsels to represent the Malaysian Indians in their civil suit filed on their behalf by P.Waytha Moorthy against the British Government for its neglect and failure to protect the minority Indian Rights when it left Malaysia to UMNO 50 years ago.
In August 2007, the chairperson of Hindraf filed a suit against the British government at the Royal Court of Justice, London for bringing Indians to Malaysia as indentured labourers and exploiting them for 150 years. The suit sought a declaration that the Reid Commission Report 1957 failed to incorporate the rights of the Indian community resulting in discrimination. The quantum sought is US$4 trillion (RM14 trillion) - or US$2 million for every Indian currently residing in Malaysia.
The peaceful Hindraf assembly has been denied a police permit and a court order has been obtained banning all Hindraf supporters from attending the assembly at the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur on 25th November.
Malaysiakini reported that Aliran and opposition parties are supporting the Hindraf assembly and have appealed to the gomen and police to allow the assembly.
Some like PKR offers qualified support and Haris of People's Parliament offers reasons why the assembly must not proceed. But is it wrong for Hindraf to hand over their petition? Hindraf is not asking for much, the legal advisor of Hindraf says :: “We intend to hand in our memorandum and go home peacefully”. Shouldn't this be allowed?
Presently there appears to be an impasse, will good sense prevail on 25th November and the peaceful assembly be allowed to proceed peacefully. Will Article 10 prevail and Malaysians have their rights to assemble peacefully?
Not saying that i have two brothers named Balan and Lingam. But these two names are pretty famous these days. It all started with the Lingam tape and now we have the Balan (Thirunama)reports. One only has to check out Malaysiakini or popular blogs like Rockybru to find out more. These days even the mainstream print media are getting into the picture as the PM has announced that a Royal Commission would be looking into the Lingam tape though some continue to mention the tape as a video purportedly showing a senior prominent lawyer in action.
This is what Lingam has to say about Balan or Thirunama ::
My brother , Balan, is a psychiatric patient who suffers from hallucinations , strong suicidal tendencies, delusions and major depression. He has suffered from this condition well before 1998. Because of his psychiatric condition, he is also prone to violent conduct, manifested by assaults upon his siblings, wife, and children. He lost his job at Tenaga Nasional Berhad because he assaulted one of his colleagues. Balan continues to suffer from serious psychiatric problems. I and he have had many serious differences on issues concerning the family and, as a result, have fallen out completely since late 1997.
And this is what Balan has to say about brother Lingam ::
I WAS USED BY MY BROTHER V. KANAGALINGAM TO CORRUPT THE FORMER CHIEF JUDGE TUN E C, THE FORMER ATTORNEY GENERAL TAN SRI M A, THE FORMER IGP TAN SRI R N, THE PRESENT COURT OF APPEAL JUDGES .......
“I’m a normal person. What my brother said about me in today’s news is not true. That’s why I’m going to sue him - for defaming me”.
Who is mad or not and who is bad or not? These questions and many more would be answered when the Royal Commission gets down to work and finally gives us all the answers. It is hoped that the terms of reference would be as wide as possible and that the Royal Commissioners constituting it would be men and ladies of impeccable character.
Update :: At 1921hours, Malaysiakini posted a report the Lingam was at the ACA to furnish evidence on his brother VK Thirunama Karasu’s mental sickness.
Copies polis reports made by Lingam's brother were released this morning to the media by lawyer Wee Choo Keong at a press conference held at the Petaling Jaya office of the Malaysia Democratic Party (MDP). These polis reports were made in March 2007, many many months before the appearance of the now famous saucyLingam video tape which apparently said judicial appointment fixing.
The "corrupt" acts purportedly carried out by the now super famous senior lawyer are just too many to list here. It is better to check out these Malaysiakini and blogger links listed below ::
Don't bother to check the mainstream media online sites or Bernama, you won't find it there.
The question on the minds of many is whether these polis reports which were made some 8 long months ago have been investigated. If yes, why so much attention had been turned on to the Lingam video tape which has been revealed only 2 short months ago? The polis reports carried sufficient reasons to call for a Royal Commission to check on VK Lingam and his connections with the judiciary and judges. Has the PDRM, ACA and the Minister-in-charge of them been sleeping on their jobs. The PM appears to be the right proper person to answer, or has he been alseep all this while?
The EC chief claimed, a few days ago, that he knows the polling date for the 12th general election but was not telling.
MCA Vice president and Health Minister Chua as good as called the EC chief a “liar” (in making such a claim and accused him of seeking publicity. Malaysiakini reported that Minister refutes EC chief's claims. Even the DPM and UMNO Deputy President, says he is in the dark. The DPM said he would also like to know when the general election would be held.
Now the PM also appears to pooh-pooh the EC chief's claims. According to Bernama, the PM said he will decide on the date to have Parliament dissolved to pave the way for the 12th general election. And i thought one needed the Agong to dissolve Parliament! The PM apparnetly said ::
"If I've not decided yet to have Parliament dissolved, how can he (Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman) know...it's I who will decide when to have Parliament dissolved".
Earlier on when the EC chief came out with his claims, it was asked :: Who's the Liar, Liar? The answer is now out for all to see. So the question now, why did the EC chief made his "I know poll date" claim? Attention seeking or what? Whatever, we now know more of this chap, the EC chief.
Looks like there is not just one calling the EC chief; Liar, Liar.
Minister Chua, the health minister and MCA vice-president, has just called the EC chief that too. Check out this report in Malaysiakini.
In the same report, Minister Chua has also urged Chinese voters not to take out their frustrations on Umno by voting for DAP. Hey, this guy is aware that we are fedup up to here with the racist posturing by Kerishamuddin and his gang.
Meanwhile, also in Malaysiakini, a former deputy prime minister mentioned of BolehLand having a semi-literate Minister. No prize for guessing who that is. Just a hint, recently he made a fool of himself on Al Jazeera over the Bersih March of 10th November.
NSC's High Performance Training Centre laid to rest?
In July 2006, Malaysiakini carried news of the NSC (National Sports Council)great idea of having a High Performance Training Centre (HPTC) in England for RM490 million. The NSC insisted then that the media was wrong about the plan and the cost. The NSC said the figure of RM490 million for the HPTC was absolutely wrong and highly speculative. The NSC claimed that the overall benefits for Malaysian sports to move to a new level and long term benefits far outweighed whatever criticism levelled on such a noble and innovative idea.
For the moment, NSC plans to set up the HPTC and use it as a forward base for Malaysian athletes have to be shelved as the East Herts Council has rejected its plans. It appears that the English value their green belts more than Malaysians.
The case officer involved, Tim Haygard recommended that the council refuse planning permission for the NSC plans which included "establishment of an elite athletes training facility comprising the regrading of an existing football pitch to FIFA standards, the erection of a two-storey plus basement accommodation building to be used by athletes and officials, the demolition of nine buildings including three curtilage listed buildings, a new car park and landscaping ...".
Initially, the NSC had planned a massive complex costing about RM490 million but was later scaled down and projected to cost RM70 million. About RM2 million has already been spent on preliminary work for a project which include fees to architects’ firms, travel and accommodation for visiting Malaysian delegations. These RM2 million would have been better spent to repair this collapsed school mentioned in Malaysiakini :: Sekolah Menengah Bandar Kuching 1 which was razed in a fire on May 28 2007.
Imagine the NSC wanting a FIFA standard football pitch! Has Malaysian football gone ballistically world standard, the English knows better, we have only played once in an Olympic football tournament and have never made it to the World Cup.
What can the NSC do in the face of rejection by the English? According to the NSC official, NSC can either appeal, submit a fresh application, which will be a faster process, or not pursue the matter at all. And who is the man or woman who can decide on this? None other than our DPM who heads the Cabinet Committee for Sports or the Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. Will they persist with this wasteful idea?
For more details on this rejection go here or here.
Malaysiakini as well as Bernama carried the news that the Nazri-proclaimed non-independent EC chief knows the date of the 12th election. And he is not telling.
But it was not so many days ago that our PM declared that he has yet to know the date of the 12th election. See Bernama's :: Abdullah Yet To Get Inspiration For Election. So if Pak Lah knows not the poll date, how then can the EC chief know? Is the EC chief the one who decides on the poll date?
To be fair to all parties contesting in the 12th election and the rakyat, the date of the 12th election should be announced in advance. This would allow all contesting parties, the rakyat and the EC to make preparations. Imagine the EC being in fill preparations now and the EC even telling the political parties to get into gear and then the 12th election is only called in 2008! Taxpayers' ringgit would just be going down the drain. The EC in its present preparations would obviously be using taxpayers' ringgit. Any preparations by the political parties would also go to waste.
In many countries election dates are announced far in advance to be fair to all contesting parties and reduce waste of time, energy and money. So lets have it Mr Clean PM/PM Bersih. Stop beating about the bush and dropping all those unnecessary little hints here and there and everywhere. And now even getting the EC chief to drop them too!
Malik Imtiaz, Nazri and KJ discuss BERSIH MARCH on Al Jazeera
According to the Bersih website, the Yellow Bersih March of 10th Nov will be discussed on Al Jazeera Astro Channel 513 tonight (15th Nov) at 1030pm.
Those interested do not miss it. See how the "Pantang diCabar" son-in-law and the "Pea-Brained" one (check out this MJ article on Malaysiakini) perform. Also watch out for Malik of Disquiet.
The programme is hosted by Teymoor Nabili of 101 East
Post Bersih's Yellow March, the authorities have come out with all sorts of threats. Malaysiakini mentions that the organisers of the March have been called by the polis for a chit-chat. The MB of Pahang, not really wellknown for his civicminded stance, calls for the use of the ISA. The IGP threatens parents who used their children as "humanshields" with all sorts of charges. Imagine 18 children being used as "humanshields" for a gathering of thousands! The IGP imagines too much.
Who's gonna mind the kids? Isn't the IGP aware of the recent spates of kidnappings and murders and other crimes against childen? Will the polis or gomen mind the kids while the parents are out carrying on their civic duties of ensuring freer and fairer future elections for these kids.
It is hoped that the IGP is not bringng himself to the level of people like our "Minister of Misinformation" and "Minister fo Racist Shouting".
A big hand and a big thank you those brave yellow marchers who marched in the Bersih Rally for Free and Fair Elections bravely despite the water cannons and tear gas. Congratulations on a successful rally.
Right up to the end and after, the mainstream media was silent on what was happening in KL and its surrounding areas. They were oblivious of what was happening. It appeared that Malaysiakini was the only local media interested in what was happening. Of course Al Jazeera had the whole world looking on on its Democrazy Malaysia Style. Reuters was also out early with its report but for some odd reason labelled it as Anwar Rally.
Malaysiakini put the numbers of marchers as 40,000 or thereabouts but our counting-challenged PDRM managed to count a few thousands. And in a definite spin said that the small numbers was the result of proactive polis actions. The PDRM also claimed that its proactive actions averted ugly incidents at the march! One only has to look at the Al Jazeera video to find out who were the perpetrators of any ugly incidents.
The Bernama report also appears to rub salt into those marchers smarting from the water cannon and tear gas attacks by mentioning that the Agong was away in Terengganu to participate in the 2007 Sultan's Cup Terengganu Endurance Challenge at the Terengganu International Endurance Park, Lembah Bidong. And it was left to the Agong's secretary to receive the Bersih memorandum at the gates of the Agong's Istana Negara.
