The Battle for Ijok is no Joke

The fight for n11, Ijok has started in earnest. Will it turn out to be the Battle of the 3 K's?

The BN has announced that its candidate for the Ijok bye-election is going to be K. Parthiban. This is what BERNAMA has to say about the BN candidate ::
Born on Oct 6, 1968 in Ladang Raja Musa, Kuala Selangor, Parthiban, who is also the secretary of the MIC Tanjung Karang division and a former Co-Academic Officer at the Kuala Selangor District Education Office, holds key positions in several non-governmental organisations (NGOs), including as president of the Council of the Federation of Kuala Selangor District Youth Associations.

He is also chairman of the Tanjung Karang Hindu Youth Organisation (HYO) and the Ladang Raja Musa Rukun Tetangga sector and a former secretary of the Kuala Selangor Tamil Youth Club from 1990 to 2001.

Parthiban has a Masters in Education Management from the University of Malaya and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree from the same university.

He joined MIC in 1989 and among the key political posts he held was as special officer to the Tanjung Karang Member of Parliament, personal representative of the Permatang Assemblyman for the Indian community, a committee member of the Tanjung Karang Barisan Nasional, and head of the Kampung Bukit Belimbing MIC branch.

Parthiban is also a member of the Kuala Selangor District Council.

He has pledged to do the following if elected ::
1. Continue the tradition of the BN to champion the cause of the people regardless of race or religion (sic)
2. Continue implementation of all the current and future development programmes by the government.

An independent is said also to be joining in the battle for Ijok. He is said to be K. Loganadan.

And who is K. Loganadan? BERNAMA has this to say of him ::
Loganadan, 47, lives in Klang, was born in Caledonian Estate, near Ijok town. He received his primary education at a Tamil school there and went to a secondary school in Batang Berjuntai and Batu Arang.

Says he is very familiar with the local Ijok people's problems. He is also deputy president of Kelab Motivasi Insan Cemerlang Selangor, a non-governmental organisation. He has been an MIC member for about eight years and has many relatives and friends in Caledonian Estate, which comes under the Ijok constituency.

As for Parti Keadilan Rakyat, it has yet to announce its candidate. Is it because there are some problems which still need to be ironed out? According to Malaysiakini the choice is between two new comers to PKR :: the party's treasurer, Khalid Ibrahim or S Nallakarupan.

Ijok voters should vote wisely and not let the Battle for Ijok turn out macam the Machap bye-election dishonourable joke.

Malaysia Today::Machap-one great disappointment

The voters of Machap have spoken and they will get the garmen they deserve. It is obvious that they are comfortable with a garmen which will not be transparent, accountable and see no wrong in offering goodies and sweet talks whenever it is election time. The Machap voters are obviously willing to condone a garmen which will stoop quite low to win votes. See this and this.

Lets hope these voters of Machap will not whine when they find themselves with more toll to pay when they are next in KL or when the price of fuel is hiked once again and they find that in the near future the prices of their roti kok, "Shang Chen Mi Fen Tang" skyrocket or when corruption spreads its wings further. After all, they have provided more license for the garmen to do so with their votes.

In the days to come the garmen leaders will be laughing all the way as to how they have managed once again to convince the voters of their goodness and greatness and the media will go to town as to how the BN won Machap without the need to buy votes. The opposition will lament about the disadvantages faced during the bye-election and the rampant BN inspired vote buying, intimidation and bribery they had to face. It will probably make a mountain of the mole-hill dent that it has made in the BN winning majority. Hopefully, they will also realise that despite 50 or 44 years of misrule, BolehLand voters are ever ready to lap up all that was dished out by the BN. Will the Ijok bye-election voters do the same? Time will tell.

We can only hope that Ijok voters will wake up and show better sense.
