The Kartun
Much is being said about the Kartun, I saw it first in the news presented by RTM 2. See it if you must here, don't click if you rather not.
*What is a kartun:
kar-tun: a drawing depicting a humourous situation, often accompanied by a caption.
kar-tun, political: a drawing representing current public figures or issues symbolically and often satirically.
kar-tun:carton, cardboard or plastic container.
See here for what Zunar has to say; see here for what Jeff Ooi has to say, see here for Oon Yeoh's say and lastly see here for what Mohd Zin and outraged lawmakers have to say.
Lone says: I say, I say, I say, your KC boh say. A kar-tun is a kar-tun is a kar-tun.
*see above Though this one is not in good taste, don't read too much into it.
Latest: HARAKAH has apologise and withdrawn said

Taiping the sleepy hollow, pensioners' Paradise
VIP GUESTS: Sultan Azlan Shah, Raja Permaisuri Tuanku Bainun and Raja Nazrin Shah taking the night safari tour at the Taiping Zoo on Sunday 15th June 2003
I am in TAIPING, which is often called a sleepy hollow and the pensioners' paradise, and recently there has been quite a lot of going ons because of the latest tourist attraction--the Night Safari at The Zoo. So I must talk a little about it.
Apart from this latest attraction, Taiping has much more to offer and many famous firsts and oldest. These attractions include the following:
A beautiful lake gardens
Bukit Larut Hill Station, formerly know as Maxwell Hills or Kopi San
Muzium Larut
Kuala Gula Bird Santuary
Oldest Clock Tower 1870
Oldest Railway Station
Bukit Merah LakeTown
Bukit Jana Golf Club
Food galore
The Rain Gamblers
and too many more, to name all.
For the past many weeks or so, the town has been spruced up, numerous coloured lightings added to the various roads in town, blinking and sparkling during the nights, new directional signs added and some buildings newly painted to welcome the crowds who finally descended on the town that Sunday evening. The crowd had come in large numbers to catch a glimpse of the Sultan, Sultanah and their son, (who must be one of the most eligible bachelor in Malaysia); they had also come to experience the Night Safari.
For those who have been away from Taiping for a while, they will find that she is much better lighted up at night, a new hospital building has almost been completed, there are more traffic lights in town, the night market has been shifted (the newly completed new market has not yet been put into use--stalls too tiny and too few, ask MPT why?????) and the pride of the town folks--the Lake Gardens has been greatly improved, the New Club Golf Course is NO more and finally there is Prestavest Memorial Park , Taiping's equivalent of Nilai's.
For those interested in visiting Taiping the following links are helpful:

Lessons from the ISA 6

A few of my friends did remark what a waste the 2 years or more of detention had been for the
ISA 6 who were released recently. But what the
ISA 6 did during that time and what their families, friends and supporters did and will do prove that the time has not been wasted. Despite the difficult conditions, they have put their time to good use. Rais must have learnt a lot regarding
gardening, Tian worked on getting his
PhD, Badrulamin read his
200 books and became a better citizen, the families, friends and supporters used the time fruitfully to educate the citizens regarding the ISA.
What of the future, the released 6 must continue the push together with friends and supporters and
AIM to get the
remaining ISA detainees released or charged in court and the
ISA ABOLISHED ASAPLone says: The released ISA 6, their families, friends and supporters may have learnt much during the 2 years or more, the
question is whether
their jailers and tormentors have learnt too, to be
better citizens and humans.

After Dr Mahathir
HIS song goes like this: "And now, the end is near; and so I face the final curtain...... and the Man appears to be having a little stage fright, or is the whole thing another sandiwara. Dr M will be having his last UMNO General Assembly soon, as UMNO President. Recently he gave an interview to Mingguan Malaysia and said that he is worried what may happen after he leaves in October this year, for BMalaysia see here and for English see hereLone says: Watch what happens on the
18th June. A power struggle is maybe looming for it must be remembered that
Pak Lah is an appointed
Deputy UMNO President and DPM and was not elected. Not announcing whom he will eventually have as his deputy when he is
PM does not make matter better.
Najib and his boys must be working overtime and so too must be
Ku Li's and Musa's. Exciting times are on
the way.

VCD Pirates
Something is not quite right with the present campaign against the VCD pirates. The PDRM has said that their campaign against the distributors and producers of such VCDs has been a great success. They for some odd reasons are taking the campaign next, by targetting the consumers and now our DPM, and PM wannabe wants the original production houses to reduce price to wipe out piracy! See The Star's article
Stranger still is this statement attributed to our PDRM Top Gun:Asked whether police had identified the ?masterminds? behind the syndicates and why they had not been arrested, he replied: ?Yes, police have identified some of them and 'No' as they are not directly involved.?? See the full article here
Lone says to wipe out piracy, the
ONLY way togo is to catch the
TOP GUNS concerned, those who are the
financiers and masterminds behind the piracy. That is where the campaign should be heading next!

PAS ISLAMIC BLUEPRINT
With the General Elections drawing nearer, it seems that PAS has finally come out with its blueprint for an Islamic State, read this article in the The Straits Times See also the articles in MALAYSIAKINI
The PAS Website does not seem to have this blueprint as yet, but look here for the Dasar Parti PAS

Now we will have to see what
BN, DAP, Keadilan & PRM have to say about this. As
Lone sees it, it is very unlikely that
PAS can form the government by itself in the near future. So what
PAS has to do, more importantly and relevant presently, is to come out with a
Blueprint for what happens in the event that
The Alternatives get to defeat
BN! Is there such a
Blueprint??? Let's hear it from
PAS

No Hands Holding
The Brits have commented on our no holding hands stance, see BBC and
the Singaporeans also have had their say.
Now we have the MCA having their's. PERAK MCA SAYS

Can
Datuk Ong Ka Chuan please, please tell
US what he means by " indecent behaviour and acts that violate moral values" and please, please also define what is "excessive hugging and kissing", so that we do not run foul of
MCA code of behaviour! While he is at it, could he also let
US know what is
MCA code of behaviour, that is if there is such a code. To me a kiss is just a kiss, I am sure he is not talking about
BUTTERLY KISSES or
THIS KISSBelow is what
Martin Jalleh has to say:
MAYOR WITH MIXED MOTIVES?Martin JallehDatuk Sirajuddin Salleh was handed the role of the Mayor of Ipoh by the powers-that-be in December last year, In other words, he was not selected nor voted in by the citizenry.
There was much at hand to be seen to -- the collection of garbage, attending to lethal potholes, clearing clogged drains, maintaining public places of recreation, checking on the lazy and corrupt in the Ipoh Municipal Council.
But Sirajuddin Salleh believed that he had been handpicked for a much larger role. He was going to be the hand of God -- the great enforcer of public morality
Things have been getting out of hand in the parks in Ipoh.
There has been too many incidences of hand-holding or ?handy?-panky by courting couples.
He even found a by-law which could be applied to all offenders (whatever their religion).
To give his men some hands-on training, he sent them out hand-in-hand for their new mission...to the parks, padang...and Perpustakaan!
Surely, this new code of morality -- hands-free courting -- would give BN an upper hand over PAS. He would be handing Ipoh on a platter to the ruling coalition this coming elections.
Further, it would no doubt earn him a handsome recognition from his superiors. It would come in handy for some future non-elected political appointment when his terms ends.
But there was an uproar in Ipoh.
Many of her citizens told Sirajuddin Salleh to keep his hired hands to himself and to put his hands where they should be.
The mayor very quickly washed his hands and changed his tune when he received a clear "hands-off" message .
He declared that simple hugging or holding hands are not offences under the Ipoh Municipal Council Bylaw 1985 on parks (Star, 8 June 2003).
He added the bylaw only applied to couples who engaged in indecent behaviour in parks such as excessive hugging, groping or kissing.
Common sense says that it is not wrong to hold hands, he told reporters.
Common sense was very uncommon amongst his officers who began issuing many a summons over the past months. (More than 30 summonses had been issued in the past few months.)
My enforcement officers are professionals and they know their work, he insisted.
If his officers are so professional why would Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohd Tajol issue a directive that the council cease taking action against courting couples.
Sirajuddin also said, in general, most people would not admit they did anything wrong just as thieves would not own up. He urged those couples who repeatedly denied they had engaged in improper behaviour after being issued summonses to tell the truth.
Perhaps it is Sirajuddin who should be telling the truth behind his high-handedness. His handiwork has been carried worldwide by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had recently declared that Malaysians who have a hand with foreigners discrediting the country are a disgraceful lot (Star, 9.6.03).
Should credit be given to those who discredit the country alone?
What more can Lone say, except to say, as Lionel Ritchie said: SAY YOU, SAY ME.

Now what has the
Tok Guru to say?
